Thorney Mire Barn

You will find us at around the midpoint of the single track lane that leads between the hamlet of Appersett on the A684 and the B6255, the Hawes to Ingleton road. We are next door to Thorney Mire House, which is marked on some maps. From the A1 and the East: Exit the A1 onto the A684 and follow the road through Bedale, then Leyburn, until you reach Hawes. Continue on the A684 through Hawes towards Sedburgh. After 1 mile you will come to Appersett. Just before the road bears right over the river there is a left turn which you take. After 1/3 mile you go under the old viaduct, we are the first building you come to a further 1/2 mile on. The parking area is against the building just off the road and adjacent to the entrance door. From M6 Heading North Leave the M6 at Junction 34 and head for Hawes via Ingleton by turning left on to the A683 at the end of the slip road sign posted to Kirby Lonsdale. After 10 miles turn right on to the A687 to Ingleton, the turning is on a sharp bend immediately after a narrow bridge. As you approach Ingleton pick up the Hawes signs. 15 miles after Ingleton and 2 miles before Hawes there is a house on the right (the first on the right for several miles) continue for 400 metres to a left turn. Take this turn and follow the single track lane for half a mile. After a 90 degree left turn you will see buildings ahead, pass the first building (Thorney Mire House) and take the 90 degree right bend then pull up immediately on to the road side parking area, the entrance door is adjacent to the parking area. This route is approx 30 minutes shorter than going up to J37. From M6 Heading South Leave the M6 at Junction 37 and head for Hawes through Sedburgh, on the A684. Be careful in Sedburgh, the road turns right at the start of the main high street and then there is a tight left turn 100 metres further on. As you leave Sedburgh look out for the right hand turn that is signposted to Hawes. 14 miles on from Sedburgh is the hamlet of Appersett. In Appersett the road turns sharp right over a bridge and then left over a second bridge with name of Appersett on a boulder. Immediately after the bridge turn sharp right on to a single track lane. After 1/3 mile you go under the old viaduct, we are the first building you come to a further 1/2 mile on. The parking area is against the building just off the road and adjacent to the entrance door.
