Sedbergh Golf Club was founded in 1896, although golf was first played in Sedbergh two decades earlier. The first course was over common land, known as 'The Riggs', which was described in a contemporary report in The Field as 'perfect for golf'. In reality, it was rough, excessively sloped and grazed by both sheep and cattle, with the eventual need for fenced greens. Set in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside and just 10 miles from the Lake District.
