Located in Wick in the beautiful area of Caithness, the hotel has gained wide recognition for its high standard of award winning service and fine food. Mackays offers the perfect location from which to explore the northern Highlands and Orkney Isles. Built in 1883, the hotel is regularly updated, enhancing the period features with simple yet stylish touches to provide a relaxed atmosphere. Bedrooms are all individually styled and finished with comfortable soft furnishings where guests can sit back, relax and feel truly at home. Rooms are fully equipped with all modern facilities including widescreen television, complimentary WIFI access in rooms, Tea & Coffee making facilities with biscuits, hairdryer, free newspaper and a local guide of the area written by the hotel for your convenience. No1 Bistro offers guests a warm welcome. With a friendly and relaxed atmosphere there are attentive yet unobtrusive staff there to help and provide a first class service. A wide range of dishes are available, with something to suit every taste and dietry requirement. Using only the best in local produce and fish straight from the boats of nearby Scrabster, No1 Bistro is one of Caithness 's tastiest choices for lunch and dinner. The friendly bar is at the heart of the Wick community and the centre of Hotel activity. With a well stocked bar Whisky and wines are a speciality you ll find yourself in good company and good spirits! Of course, during the day you can relax with a newspaper or a board game and enjoy one of the many choices of coffees and teas. Caithness is a wonderful, mystical part of Scotland with many places to visit. Mackays Hotel in Wick gives you the perfect base from which to explore this largely unspoilt region and only a ferry ride away from the beautiful Orkney Islands. From the grandeur of The Castle of Mey, home to the Queen Mother for many years to the simplicity of the coastal views and isolated beaches, the variety of things to do and see within a short drive of Wick will amaze you. Caithness is a bird watching paradise with birds of many species. Caithness has over 4000 monuments and castle ruins dating from Prehistoric time 's right up the more recent Highland Clearances era. Most are not signposted but simply ask at reception for a map and directions to enjoy a wonderful passage through time. Entry to castle and monument sites are in the main, free. Visit the nearby Distillery where the local Whisky, Pulteney, is created and enjoy a relaxing tour that allows you to sample the wonderful malt and liquer on offer.

Wick is easily accessed from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen and is just off the main A9 route to Thurso. From Glasgow take the A82 to Fort Williams then to Inverness, join the main A9 route north. From Edinburgh take the M90 North to Perth then join the A9 Perth to Inverness and Wick. From Aberdeen, the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness, then the A9 to Thurso. The highlands can be accessed by these three main arterial routes. From Inverness you will enter Wick by the South road, (stay on this road).
