Forest of Arden, Marriott Hotel & Country Club is one of the UK's most impressive West Midland?_?_??s golf destinations, featuring two top-class golf courses in the West Midlands - the Arden Course and Aylesford Course ?_?_̱ and a driving range.
The Arden Course was designed by Donald Steel and built on Lord Aylesford’s vast 10,000-acre estate back in the early 1970s. Since it was completed,
it has played host to some incredible and memorable tournaments, including seven English Opens and five British Masters, and has seen the likes of
Colin Montgomerie, Thomas Björn, Darren Clarke and Robert Allenby leave victorious.
The Arden Course starts off in gentle enough fashion with two short and relatively undemanding par 4s but it can be stretched to 7,213-yards from the Championship tees. Arguably the signature hole is the par 3 18th which requires a 200-yard carry over a lake to an undulating green perched to the side of the hotel.
The newer Aylesford Course is considerably shorter than its exalted neighbour at 5,801 yards, but it’s great fun to play and should not be underestimated as
a test of golf.
Here the premium is on accuracy and never more so than on the 482-yard par 5 18th which is reachable in two but protected by both large trees and a water hazard – typical of a Donald Steel design where severe penalties await a wayward shot.
The Arden Course, designed by Donald Steele in 1992, has played host to a succession of international tournaments, including the British Masters and the English Open. The par 72 course, measuring 7,213 yards, is a true test of golf designed to make golfers play a wide range of shots. A variety of different tee boxes, water hazards, trees, which neatly line the fairways, and thick rough make the Arden Golf Course long and challenging but still a very enjoyable test of golf for golfers of all abilities.
Complementing the Arden Course is the recently redesigned Aylesford Course. The par 69 course is shorter in length than its sister course, yet it retains many of the Donald Steel hallmarks that the Arden Course offers in its layout, green design, and bunkering.
