Forest How is a large Victorian House, dating back to the 1870,'s set in peaceful seclusion amidst five and a half acres of natural fellside and gardens at the foot of Muncaster Fell. All rooms enjoy spectacular views across fields to the village of Eskdale Green and to the fells beyond. Our emphasis is on providing you with comfortable and relaxing accommodation for your stay in this beautiful part of the Lake District with a hearty breakfast to set you up for the day, prepared using locally sourced produce. For outdoor enthusiasts the area is idyllic. With footpaths and bridleways leading directly from the house, Forest How is the perfect base for exploring the Eskdale Valley either on foot or by cycling. Nearby are some of the highest peaks in the Lake District with Wasdale only a few miles away and the steep Hardnott pass leading to Langdale. We have a drying room for wet clothes/boots and can provide secure cycle storage and packed lunches. Dogs are welcome by arrangement (please advise at time of booking) for a small charge of £5 per dog per night. For golfers, there are two courses nearby - Eskdale and Seascale. The area is a photographers dream and guests are more than welcome to wander around the garden and field in search of that perfect picture - birds, red squirrels, deer, fell views, we have them all! For a more leisurely day out, why not take the miniature steam train to the coast at Ravenglass or further up the valley to the little village of Boot. We are conveniently situated at the end of the lane that crosses the famous railway at Irton Road Station. Muncaster Castle with its beautiful gardens and World Owl Centre is only a fifteen minute drive away. There is a choice of local pubs in the valley offering real ales, bar snacks and restaurants. Two are within walking distance of the house with the others a short distance by car.
