Edinburgh Caledonian Guesthouse, located in the desirable Merchiston area of Edinburgh approximately 1 mile south-west of Princes Street, underwent a major refurbishment in 2014 and has been lovingly and thoughtfully renovated to provide guests with a truly relaxing, peaceful and comfortable experience at competitive prices. The historic Edinburgh city centre can be reached on foot by walking along the nearby Union Canal, where barges and modern architecture mingle seamlessly. Further along you will reach Fountainbridge, Edinburgh 's central business district, and boyhood home to the legendary 007 himself, Sir Sean Connery (or Big Tam, as he is affectionately known in these parts). Edinburgh also has a truly world class bus service, recently voted the best in Europe. Buses leave frequently from a stop less than 100 yards from our front door, and a day ticket for just £3.50 allows you unlimited travel throughout the day and a great opportunity to explore this remarkable city at your pace and leisure. Our rooms are immaculately presented, and have all been refurbished to the highest standards. Brand new beds, mattresses, linen and furniture are complimented with wall-hung flatscreen televisions, elegant tea/coffee making facilities and generous clothes hanging space for your use. A good night 's sleep is hugely important when enjoying a holiday, and that is why we have introduced black-out curtains to all our rooms, to help accentuate the peaceful surroundings of this listed Victorian town house. Free Wifi is available throughout. A traditional and hearty Scottish breakfast is served with our compliments in the Breakfast Room, where guests can enjoy the period feature bay window and prepare their itinerary. Please see our Terms & Conditions for further information: BOOKING CONFIRMATION Upon receipt of guests booking request the value of the first night only is automatically taken as a deposit from the payment card supplied. This is non-refundable at all times. If invalid payment card details are supplied, the guest will be alerted and given 24hrs to provide an alternative method of payment, without which and after which the booking will be cancelled. Please note that any credit card transactions are subject to a 2.5% transaction fee. Debit cards are not subject to this transaction fee. The remainder of the balance is payable upon departure. Cheques are not accepted. CANCELLATION POLICY First night deposit payment is non-refundable at all times and full balance is only payable if booking is cancelled within 7 days before arrival date and is non-refundable at all times, in accordance with industry standards. RECEPTION, CHECK IN & CHECK OUT Due to being a family-run business and not a Hotel, we do not offer a 24hr Reception. Therefore, we may not always be available on the premises in person. Reception is open from 8am until 5pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm at weekends. There is an out of hours call centre available for emergencies only. CHECK IN Check in is available from 2pm and late arrivals are accepted however guests must notify Reception in advance in order to arrange entry to the guesthouse out of hours. CHECK OUT Check out is at 10am. Late check out can be arranged by prior arrangement with us. We will endeavour to accommodate you if we can. BREAKFAST Breakfast is included with all room bookings. FULLY NO-SMOKING POLICY On 26 March 2006 the law on smoking in Scotland changed. Smoking is no longer permitted in enclosed public places. Failure to comply with the law is now a criminal offence and individuals will receive a fixed penalty of £200 for smoking in a no-smoking premises. This will be automatically deducted from your payment card. LEFT LUGGAGE There is limited space for left luggage, and we like to help people when we can, within reason. Please ask at reception
