The Old Course, an out and back layout, is the original MacKenzie design. Featuring Snag, the 17th hole, regarded by many as the signature hole on the course.
The Micklem Course is many members’ favoured layout incorporating some of the oldest holes in combination with three of the more challenging eastern holes.
The Brabazon Course incorporates 14 of the original holes; Pennink's four new holes coming into play after the turn. The Brabazon, an uneven 73 (35 out, 38 back), is now considered the Championship Course and is tougher and longer than the Old Course.
The New Course is another composite of the existing Alister MacKenzie holes and the four newer additions, designed by Frank Pennink in the 1970's. The biggest difference to the other layouts at Seaton Carew are on the front nine, where the 6th is played to the original green which is off-set to the left of the fairway and the 7th which is played of the back tees of the Gare hole, making it a long Par 3. This layout tends to be played mainly in the winter months.
The Bishop Course goes straight out for the first six holes, before taking a short turn for home until the 11th. It is a combination of fifteen Alister MacKenzie holes, which were laid out in the 1920's and three additional holes designed in the 1970's by Frank Pennink. This is yet another interesting combination which provides a good links challenge.
