Montrose Links Golf Club
Montrose, Tayside
Trail Drive, Montrose, Tayside, DD10 8SW, Scotland
The Clubs 450-year heritage can be found in every one of our two links courses?_?_?? 18 holes.

Located thirty miles from Dundee and forty miles from Aberdeen and St Andrews, our historic course is ideally situated in between popular golfing hubs and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

The stunning Montrose landscape guarantees enjoyment and a very testing experience at one of the oldest golf courses in the world.

Montrose Links offers a fantastic golfing experience and reliable playing conditions throughout the year. The classic Medal links is complemented by our Broomfield links and together they provide an ideal 36 hole visitor day package.

A warm welcome is always guaranteed in the three local clubs; Montrose Caledonia, Montrose Mercantile and Royal Montrose.
Medal Course

Consistently in the Golf Monthly World’s Top 100 courses, The Medal has been described as “a magnificent stretch of marvellously natural ground” the course challenges golfers with its undulating fairways and fast greens, made more difficult when the wind whips inland from the sea. The Medal Course has all the key ingredients to make up one of the utmost challenges in the world of golf – rugged and undulating (yet an easy walk), some deep bunkers, springy yet quick draining turf, bountiful gorse, sand dunes aplenty and fantastic greens. A number of the holes run alongside the rugged Angus coastline offering some stunning scenery. The Medal Course can also offer one of golf’s most significant challenges – the East wind demands the upmost respect even from the most experienced golfer. The combination of all of the classic links ingredients are here in abundance, providing a demanding test of golfing proficiency. However, we have also introduced a new blue tee which ensures the course is more accessible for higher handicap golfers.

Broomfield Course

The Broomfield is not a ‘power’ course requiring drives of hundreds of yards. The key to conquering this deceptive course is a delicate touch and the ability to accurately control the ball from the tee. Especially when the East wind blows (which it has been known to do!), the Broomfield can prove to be a significant challenge. Yet, when conditions are more benign, the course positively encourages low scores. On initial inspection, the Broomfield may look flat, golfers beware – the devil is in the detail as the natural undulations demand precision from tee to green. Putting can also prove to be demanding as the subtle contours of the greens are a test for any golfer. Broomfield’s turf is links-like and enjoyable to play off, especially in the summer months when the ground is dry and fast. Whins are a feature of many holes – the 9th for example has whins up both sides of a narrow fairway demanding a straight drive from tee to green. Another distinguishing feature is the burn which comes into play on at least five holes. It crosses the fairway at the 3rd, 4th and 13th and affects approach shots to the 5th and 12th. The two most playable holes are the 10th, a par four of only 286 yards with a well-bunkered green, and the 4th with its tee shot across the burn via a bunkered fairway to a green that slopes away on both sides and the back. The Broomfield may not be quite as challenging as the Medal Course, but don’t let this lull you into a false sense of security – the Broomfield can provide a tough test. Overall, it is a joy to play and is commonly used by members to test their short game and visitors wishing to take on the challenge of playing both courses in one day.
