The Mackintosh course, is named after Alfred Donald Mackintosh of Mackintosh the 28th Chief of Clan Mackintosh and Chief of Clan Chattan, who resided at Cottrell until his death in 1938. He made his Welsh seat a centre of lavish entertainment and social gatherings. A True Parkland par 72 course with mature trees up to 300 years old. The Mackintosh provides 6568 challenging yards off the Championship Tees and is designed around the original features of the historic parkland. This well constructed course includes four Par 5’s, four Par 3’s and ten Par 4’s making the Mackintosh a testing but enjoyable walk. The Mackintosh Course is a longer Parkland Course 6,091 yards off the yellow tees or 6,361 yards off the white tees. Due to the high level of maintenance the courses can sustain the bleaker winter months and is renowned as one of the best draining parkland courses in South Wales with members from other clubs taking advantage when their own courses are closed. At Cottrell, golfers play off summer tees, fairways and greens throughout the year!
The Button Gwinnett course takes it name from a former resident who was one of the fifty-six men that signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776, thus becoming one of America’s immortals. His unusual first name is derived from his uncle Sir Thomas Button, a naval explorer famous for charting the American north west coast. With an American theme the Button Gwinnett boasts 13 lakes spread over 18 holes. At a Championship level this course offers a good challenge to all categories of golfer as well as offering the most fantastic views across the Vale. The last three holes have been newly designed including the 16th, which has similarities to the 16th of Augusta with water from Tee to Green. The 17th plays up to a Plateau green and to finish you play the picturesque 18th over a large water feature in view of the Clubhouse. A Tricky but enjoyable Course.
